India did very well to win against Sri Lanka in the ODI match at Goa.
The bowlers did well to win the game for India.
Zaheer Khan had a good game with his first 5-for in ODIs. He bowled very well to put India right in the game. Right from the time his initial burst of 3 wickets had Sri Lanka down at 6 for 3, it was hard for the islanders to get into the game.
The other bowlers bowled very well too although the 5th bowlers’ quota of 10 runs went for quite a few runs. The good thing was that the Indians got a few excellent catches — Ganguly, Tendulkar and Agarkar caught blinders to complement some good bowling by Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel. In particular, Munaf Patel’s form with the ball is heartening.
The batting was good too. Saurav Ganguly seems to be going from strength to strength. Sehwag was disappointing in a game that he could have used to play himself into form. India has one more game to ascertain if he or Uthappa will open. Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni steadied the slide to guide India home. Overall, this was a strong team-effort that produced the result for India.
With Irfan Pathan carrying a niggle, it is likely that todays’ XI may well be the team that strides out when India plays her first game of the World Cup. That is, of course, if Sehwag can get his act together… and that is a big IF…
