News in brief: Wednesday 21 March 2007

Just one week into the cup and we have had a sad death which is now suspected as murder, a top team out of the competition, a much hyped “cup contender”  being taken down by a so called “minnow”, a former captain being suspended from the team and stripped of his vice-captaincy after being rescued from the sea, six sixes hit in an over – I think I can keep going on, but here is today’s cricket news in brief –

  1. If there is any involvement of the betting mafia in Pakistan’s losses and the unfortunate death of Woolmer, it is very likely that the Indian results are “touched” as well….

  2. I am in India right now. The news channels and papers are awash with speculation. All sorts of (non)experts are being lined up to speculate on this issue.

There is a heck of a lot of inuendo going around. All of this before there is any medical evidence to suggest foul play. It is, I think, best to wait till we have confirmed reports.
