Abhinav Mukund in Team India side!

Within a year of our prediction, Abhinav Mukund has made it to India side. Replacing injured Gautam Gambhir, Abhinav Mukund has overtaken other possible contenders including Ajinkya Rahane, Shikar Dhawan or other makeshift openers like Dinesh Karthik as the best option for an Indian opening slot. Having said that, it is more than likely that M. Vijay will open the innings with Viru Sehwag in Bangalore. The status on VVS Laxman is unclear. Even if VVS is unfit, Cheteswar Pujara might take his place. In any case, it is a wonderful achievement for Mukund. This is a proud moment for him and all his supporters including some of us at i3j3 are extremely excited about this well deserved promotion. Our best wishes to him and hoping to see him don India colours soon.

  1. Good decision by the selectors. They had erred in not playing Abhinav ahead of Dhawan in the BP XI game against Australia. Hopefully Badri’s claims will also be recognised and the selectors will not be fooled by Yuvi’s recent double hundred. Also seeing Raina being undone by the short delivery is not looking good for the SA tour.

  2. I completely agree that Yuvi’s double hundred shouldn’t somehow be interpreted as “return to form”. I still have my hopes on Suresh Raina. I am not so sure about Badri’s chances though now that Pujara has sneaked in to the side.

  3. I happy for Mukund. Good exposure for him.

I do agree that Badri deserves to be in the India test side. But that will only happen only if both Dravid and Laxman are to retire within the next one year. But as a Team India fan, I don’t want to see that happening in the near future 🙂
Or if Pujara doesn’t do well. Badri will get a chance. But again I would like to see Pujara shine as he is younger and can become a long term prospect.

  4. I am happy with the decision of selectors in respect of Mukund. But I am not sure they are doing the right thing with Unadkat.

Jaidev Unadkat is yet to play Ranji. He has made it to the Indian team because of some fine performances in handful of matches on India A’s tour to England and the Irani Trophy. And his claim was strengthened with Wasim Akram’s good words…

But I think this is a case of fast-tracking him. He needs to grind it out a little more in the domestic season and if he proves up to it, he is more than welcome. Right now, it is way too early…

  5. Not even a word for VVS’s innings 😦

He did not have his patented on-drive, perhaps due to the bad back, but the short arm/pull or cover drive, square cut was in play.

  6. Your blog is excellent. To get more visitors to your site submit your post at Stumblednews.freevar.com.

  7. Abhimanyu Mithun did not do much wrong on the SL tour. He could have also been considered.

  8. Abhinav is really a well deserved player to take this place in the team.if he gets an opportunity he’ll definitely prove his talent.i’m so excited to watch him in action.
